The match was postponed last week due to Pyramids’ participation in the African Super Cup, where they defeated Morocco’s RSB Berkane 1-0 to claim their second continental title.
Fresh from that triumph, Pyramids will be aiming to maintain their momentum against Ethiopian Insurance.
Their recent success has also seen the club and four of its players nominated for the CAF Club of the Year and African Player of the Year awards.
“It’s difficult to reveal the secret of our success, but the players are always motivated to achieve great things in their careers. As a coach, I just try to create the right environment,” said Pyramids coach Krunoslav Jurcic following their Super Cup victory.
Pyramids advanced to the Champions League round of 32 after thrashing Rwanda’s APR 5-0 on aggregate in the preliminary round.
“We will rotate the squad in league matches to stay fresh. It’s important for us to keep improving,” Jurcic said ahead of Sunday’s clash.
Ethiopian Insurance arrived in Cairo on Thursday and will play both legs at the 30 June Stadium, with the return fixture set for 30 October.
Domestically, Pyramids have enjoyed a solid start to the Egyptian Premier League campaign, winning five of eight matches, drawing two and losing once to sit sixth on 17 points, four behind leaders Ahly, who have played two games more.
The Cairo-based side also lifted the inaugural FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup last month, defeating Saudi Arabia’s Ahli Jeddah, the Asian Champions League Elite winners, 3-1 in the final.
