Pyramids FC will host Ethiopian Insurance on Thursday in the second leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round at Air Defense Stadium in Cairo, as the Egyptian side aims to secure their place in the competition's group stage.

The defending champions earned a 1-1 draw in the first leg, which was also held in Cairo on Sunday, after the Ethiopian side and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) agreed to play both legs in the Egyptian capital.

The first-leg result, along with the Ethiopian side's performance, suggests that Pyramids FC's qualification for the next round is all but confirmed.

However, the team’s technical staff has urged caution, warning against potential surprises.

With these warnings in mind, coach Krunoslav Jurcic is likely to maintain his regular starting lineup, aiming to wrap up the tie quickly.

The form of Congolese striker Fiston Mayele, who scored the team's only goal in the first leg, could be key.

However, Pyramids FC will be without classy winger Mostafa Fathi, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained during the first leg.

Fathi is expected to be out for around four weeks.

To fill the void left by Fathi, the Croatian coach may rely on versatile winger Ahmed Atef or Abdel-Rahman Magdy.

With 14 teams already having secured their place in the group stage, all eyes are now on the outcome of the games between Pyramids FC and Ethiopian Insurance, as well as RS Berkane and Ahly Tripoli.
