Former Zamalek midfielder Mohamed Sabry dies in car accident at 51

Former Zamalek and Egypt midfielder Mohamed Sabry died in a car accident in Cairo’s Fifth Settlement on Thursday. He was 51.

Sabry, a key figure in Zamalek’s successful era in the 1990s and early 2000s, won 15 major titles with the club between 1993 and 2003, including three CAF Champions League crowns and two Egyptian Premier League titles.

Zamalek legend Mahmoud Abdel-Razek “Shikabala” led tributes online, describing Sabry as “a legend of Egyptian football” and “a symbol of loyalty and devotion to his club and supporters.”

Egypt national team coach Hossam Hassan and Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib also issued condolences to Sabry’s family and the wider football community.

Sabry, who also represented Egypt at the international level, remains remembered as one of Zamalek’s most influential midfielders of his generation.
