Girona’s sporting director Quique Cárcel has dismissed reports linking the Catalan club with a move for Ahly goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir, confirming that the La Liga high-flyers have shown “no interest” in signing him.

Girona’s denial came after Spanish outlet Marca reported that Shobeir had been placed on a shortlist of potential winter reinforcements, alongside Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Conde.

Cárcel told Egyptian media that Girona “did not show any interest in signing him,” refuting suggestions that the 23-year-old is under consideration ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Spanish media, Girona are assessing goalkeeping options amid uncertainty over Croatian international Dominik Livaković, who joined on loan from Fenerbahçe but has yet to make an appearance and could return to Turkey in January.

Shobeir has featured six times for Ahly this season, conceding six goals and keeping two clean sheets. He also impressed for Egypt during the Al Ain friendly tournament, notably contributing to the Pharaohs’ shootout win over Cape Verde.

Despite Girona’s stance, Shobeir’s inclusion in Marca’s reporting indicates growing visibility for the young goalkeeper in European media.
