The 25-year-old confirmed the end of his spell with the Cairo giants in a message posted on Instagram, thanking the club’s management, players and supporters for what he described as a journey “full of memories and events”.
“Today, my relationship with Ahly has come to an end after a journey that lasted more than five years,” Abdelkader wrote. “Thank you to the great Ahly club, its president, players and board of directors. Thank you to Ahly’s fans.”
Al-Karma have finalized an agreement with Ahly to sign the winger, with the Egyptian club set to receive $200,000 plus up to $50,000 in bonuses. The deal also includes a 25 percent sell-on clause should the player move again in the future.
Under the terms of the contract, the Iraqi side must notify Ahly first if they intend to sell Abdelkader to another Egyptian club.
Al-Karma have also agreed personal terms with the player, who joins as the club sit top of the Iraqi league standings with 32 points from 15 matches, one point ahead of Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and Erbil.
Abdelkader’s move comes after a limited role this season, having played 190 minutes across 10 matches in all competitions without scoring or providing an assist.
During his time with Ahly, Abdelkader made 123 appearances, scoring 20 goals and registering 12 assists.
