Ivorian striker Oussou Konan and winger Ahmed Shokry were left out of Ahly’s 22-man squad for Saturday’s anticipated clash against Tunisia’s Esperance in the second leg of the African Champions League final.

Konan has struggled to establish himself since joining Ahly in the summer, with coach Hossam El-Badry preferring to rely on the likes of Emad Meteb, Mohamed Nagy ‘Gedo’ and Dominique Da Silva upfront.

Shokry is also finding it difficult to play regular first-team football after ending a loan stint at Bani Sweif telephones, given the abundance of attacking midfielders at El-Badry’s disposal.

The squad did not include regular left-back Sayed Moawad, who also missed the first leg against Esperance because of a knee complaint.

Ahly need to beat Esperance in Tunis or secure a higher goal-scoring draw than 1-1 if they are to secure their first Champions League title since 2008.

Ahly squad:

Goalkeepers: Sherif Ekramy, Mahmoud Aboul-Saoud, Ahmed Adel

Defenders: Wael Gomaa, Sherif Abdel-Fadil, Mohamed Naguib, Saad Samir, Rami Rabeia, Ahmed Fathi, Ahmed Seddik, Ahmed Shedid

Midfielders: Hossam Ghaly, Hossam Ashour, Shehab Ahmed, Mohamed Barakat, Walid Soliman, Abdallah El-Saied, Mohamed Abou-Treika

Forwards: Emad Meteb, El-Sayed Hamdi, Dominique Da Silva, Mohamed Nagy ‘Gedo’
