Egyptian champions Ahly have stopped their pursuit of a foreign striker in the January transfer window, coach Hossam El-Badry said on Friday.
The Red Devils have been on the lookout for a new striker to reinforce their unproductive frontline amid reports they planned to offload Mauritania’s Dominique Da Silva.
They handed trials to several strikers, including Ghanaian Agyemang Opoku and Zimbabwe’s Edward Sadomba, but eventually opted against signing any.
“We closed that matter after the Sadomba deal fell through. We will not sign a foreign striker,” El-Badry was quoted as saying by local media.
Ahly have already signed a new frontman in Egypt’s Ahmed Abdel-Zaher, who arrived from fellow Egyptian Premier League outfit ENPPI on a four-and-half year deal.
The Cairo giants are due to open their new league campaign against Ghazl El-Mahalla early next month.
