Experienced left-back Sayed Moawad is back for Ahly after a lengthy absence as the Red Devils host Maqassa in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old, who is also a regular starter at Egypt's national team, has been out of action since October after suffering a niggling foot injury.

The diminutive Ahmed Shedid, who has been deputising for him on the left flank, was criticising for leaving gaps behind him but he still heavily contributed to Ahly's attacking attempts via his darting runs.

Mowad was named in Ahly's squad for the Maqassa game but it remains to be seen whether coach Hossam El-Badry will include him in the starting line-up.

The defending champions will be looking to maintain their recent fine run that included two consecutive victories over ENPPI and Gouna as they recovered from a slow start to the season.

They are joint top of Group A in the league's new format with 15 points but have a game in hand over second-placed ENPPI.

Maqassa, on the other hand, lie sixth in the nine-team group with nine points. The top two in Groups A and B will advance to the decisive playoff, where a mini-league with only home fixtures will be held to determine the champion.

Ahly will only miss influential midfielder Hossam Ashour due to "teeth pain", the club said on their website.
