Upon request on the security forces, Ahly have agreed to play their game against South African side SuperSport in Round 32 of the CAF (Confederation of African Football) Champions League on 18 March — a day earlier than initially scheduled — as the national referendum on constitutional amendments will be on 19 March.
The constitutional referendum should have taken place in the first week of March, but a new decree of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces postponed it to Saturday 19 March.
The six-time African champions Ahly also agreed to play the game in the 65,000-seat Cairo Stadium instead of the Military Stadium.
Football in Egypt has been in halted since 25 January. This will be the second official game to be played in Cairo after Zamalek’s 1-0 win over Kenya’s Ulinzi stars in the CAF Champions League preliminary round on Sunday, 27 February.
