An Egyptian Football game was postponed in bizarre fashion on Thursday after the opposing teams went to different venues following a stadium mix-up.
Ittihad of Alexandria and Dakhleya were due to meet at Cairo's Air Defence Stadium but a last-minute notification by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) that the game would be switched to another venue caused confusion.
Dakhleya eventually went to another stadium in Cairo but Ittihad did not accept the EFA's request, going to the Air Defence Stadium as previously planned.
Both sides hit out at the EFA following the latest mix-up amid speculation that the association might fail to complete the competition this season due to political instability.
"The association will investigate the incident related to Ittihad-Dakhleya game to find out the reason for what happened," the EFA said in a brief statement on its website.
Few Egyptian army-owned stadiums host all league games behind closed doors due to lingering security concerns in a country still struggling to combat football hooliganism following last year's Port Said disaster.
The last round of the premier domestic competition is scheduled to start on 29 June but the EFA is likely to postpone it due to planned protests against President Mohamed Morsi one day later.
