The 18th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League will be played on 9 July after being previously suspended due to security concerns, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Thursday.
The Competitions Committee of the EFA decided that premier league activities will resume on 9 and 10 July, however they are waiting for formal confirmation from the interior ministry.
"We sent formal letters to the clubs informing them that the 18th round of the premier league will be played on 9 and 10 July," the EFA Competitions Committee head Mazen Marzook told Al-Ahram Arabic news portal on Thursday.
"We received verbal promises from security authorities that they are ready to secure the games, but formal confirmation has not been sent yet," he added.
The recently-resigned Egyptian Sports Minister El-Amry Farouk decided to delay the premier league games for an indefinite period due to security concerns resulting from fan behaviour during the previous round's matches, in which fans of Ahly, Zamalek, Ismaily and Ittihad all violated crowd bans.
Spectators are currently prohibited from attending Egyptian football matches due to security concerns following last year's Port Said stadium disaster, which left more than 70 people dead and hundreds injured.
The EFA, meanwhile, has fined the four clubs LE100,000 each for crowd disturbances during the league's 17th round.
