Egyptian club Ittihad of Alexandria appointed Talaat Youssef as their new head coach on Monday without disclosing the details of the deal.
Youssef will succeed Ahmed Sary who left his post after the suspension of the Egyptian League season due to security concerns.
"Ittihad management have said they will not interfere in Youssef's choices whether for his assistants or for new signings," state news agency MENA reported.
Youssef was an icon of costal club Ittihad in the 1970s.
The former Talae El-Gaish, Ittihad El-Shorta and Masry head coach has just departed his post as the tactician of Beni Suef Telephones due to his contract ending.
Suffering financial problems this season, Ittihad came bottom of the league's Group B with 14 points, 25 behind leaders Zamalek.
Under the guidance of Youssef, Beni Suef Telephones came fourth in Group A with 21 points, 18 behind leaders Ahly.
