Masry club president Kamel Abou Ali met with former Ahly assistant coach Alaa Mayhoub on Saturday, requesting that he lead his team until next January.

Mayhoub will be assisted by Tarek El-Sawy and Hassan Nasr until the club hires a new head coach--most likely a foreign one--to lead the team for the rest of the season.

Mokhtar Mokhtar stepped down after Masry suffered a stunning 3-1 home defeat by Smouha on Thursday in day 12 of the Egyptian Premier League. The board was forced to accept his decision in the wake of fan outrage as Masry conceded back-to-back defeats by Zamalek and Smouha, who hadn’t tasted victory until last Thursday.

Ali had previously held talks with former Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry for the Masry head coach position, as well as former Zamalek  coaches Nelo Vingada of Portugal and Calros Cabral of Brazil. They all turned down the offer.

Masry are seventh in the league table with 16 points and the new coach will be tested soon when the team face Arab Contractors next Thursday in day 13 of the league.
