Ahly star Mohamed Mohamed Abou-Treika is doubtful for the anticipated match against Congo’s AC Leopards due to injury.

Title holders Ahly will be hosted by the Congolese team in the third round of the African Champions League group stage on 17 August.

The Pharaohs star striker and attacking midfielder, Abou-Treika, picked up an ankle injury during Friday's training session and will miss Sunday's friendly against Helwan.

"Abou-Treika got better but will undergo further scans on Sunday to determine his availability for the Leopards clash," Ahly's doctor Khaled Mahmoud told the club's official website.

The seven-time African champions, Ahly, must win in Congo in order to continue their campaign towards the title following humiliating 3-0 defeat against South Africa's Orlando Pirates on 4 August.

It was the Cairo giant’s heaviest home defeat in the prestigious continental tournament.

Under the guidance of coach Mohamed Youssef, the Red Devils will be eager for a full-strength arrival in Congo to complete the African title campaign on a high note.

OrlandoPirates top Group A with four points, ahead of second-placed AC Leopards.

Cairo rivals Ahly and Zamalek have one point each after playing out a 1-1 draw in their opening group-stage game.
