Hundreds of Zamalek fans have gathered in front of the club's headquarters in Mit Oqba, in Giza, on Saturday to demand that the club's president to step down.

The angry fans tried to storm through the gate but security forces managed to counter them, leading to confrontations and reportedly some minor injuries.

The fans called for the demonstration on the third day of Eid to protest against the policies of the club's president, Mamdouh Abbas.

They accuse the famous businessman of failing to solve the club's long-standing financial crises and of poor management which forced players like Ibrahim Salah, Sabri Rahil and Ahmed El-Shennawy to leave the club, in addition to former coach Jorvan Vieira, who quit as the club's board failed to meet his demands.

The wave of anger comes just a week after the team's defeat in the African Champions League against AC Leopards 1-0. The game was abandoned by the team's skipper and goalkeeper, Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed and former Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan after an argument with Abbas over their late salaries.
