Jordanian fans gave Egyptian coach Hossam Hassan a stirring welcome on Wednesday after the team returned home following a crucial shootout victory over Uzbekistan in Asia's World Cup qualifying play-off.

The jubilant supporters erupted into ecstasy as the team jetted into Jordan, cheering on their national side after they won a marathon penalty shoot-out 9-8 Tuesday to down Uzbekistan in a dramatic match following a 2-2 aggregate draw.

They carried Hassan on their shoulders and chanted "lead us to Brazil" in reference to next year's World Cup finals.

Jordan will now play the fifth placed team in South American qualifying -- currently Uruguay -- home and away in November for a place at the World Cup.

Hassan, who took part in the 1990 World Cup as a striker with the Pharaohs, said earlier this month he hoped to lead Jordan to a place in the Brazil finals.

"I can tell that this team have a huge desire to go all the way and achieve their dream," he told FIFA.com.

Hassan is Egypt's all-time top scorer with 69 goals. He also steered Cairo giants Ahly and Zamalek to a host of domestic and continental titles in his glittering playing career that ended in 2007.

However, he had some less successful stints as a manager, having made little impact in charge of the likes of Zamalek, Masry and Telecom Egypt.
