The Egyptian league's new season draw has been indefinitely postponed, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) revealed on Tuesday.

The draw for the two-group Egyptian Premier League matches was due to be held on Tuesday, but the Interior Ministry has not yet given final word concerning the tournament.

"The new season draw is postponed until we receive the Interior Ministry's approval to hold the matches," the EFA revealed in a statement on its official website.

The beginning of the season had already been twice delayed by EFA before 26 December was set as the final start date.

The sudden postponement comes despite Sports Minister Taher Abou-Zeid's confirmation that he had obtained a preliminary go-ahead from the Interior Ministry on Monday regarding the start of the season.

The fate of the new season will remain unclear until final security approval.

The last two successive Egyptian football seasons have also been abandoned midway due to security concerns.
