An own-goal from Mozambique defender Mano was all what Ahly needed to seal a 1-0 victory over ENPPI in the Egyptian Premier League at Cairo Stadium.
With both sides creating few clear-cut chances in the game, defender Mano made sure Ahly came out with all three points when a cross was deflected off him in the 67th minute.
The game witnessed two Ahly new-signings make their debut when former ENPPI frontman Ahmed Raouf and Burkina Faso striker Moussa Yedan came on as second-half substitutes.
Ahly cement their position on top of Group A with nine points from three games as ENPPI lie sixth on four.
A dreary first half saw both sides struggle to pose real threat on goal and it wasn’t until the 10th minute when ENPPI’s Abdallah Gomaa tested keeper Sherif Ekramy with a left-footed strike from outside the box.
Young forward Amr Gamal, however, could have broken the deadlock when he received the ball inside the area only to shoot straight at keeper Mohamed Abdel-Monsef after eluding a defender three minutes from half-time.
Mano own-goal
Egypt youngster Mahmoud Trezeguet was close on giving Ahly the lead just six minutes into the second half when he fired a wonderful left-footed strike that narrowly missed the target.
But the seventh minute past the hour-mark saw the African champions take the lead when right-back Saad Samir’s cross was deflected off Mano into his own net.
Salah Ashour almost replied to the goal six minutes later but his long-range effort missed the target by inches as the game ended one-nil in the Reds’ favour.
