Masry have officially hired Mohamed Salah as their head coach, the Egyptian club announced on Monday.

Salah will succeed former boss Sabry El-Meniawy who was recently under fire because of the club's poor results since the start of the season.

After four matches, Masry currently lie at the bottom of the league's Group B with only two points, 11 behind leaders Ismaily.

The woes of the Port Said-based club were further aggravated on Monday when they were dealt their second defeat of the season against Ismaily.

That match was the death knell for El-Meniawy, who was fired by the club's board after the loss, according to a statement published on Masry's official website.

The statement added that former coach Salah will take charge of the team in the coming period, "after reaching an agreement with club president Yasser Yehia."

Masry had initially offered the position to Ahmed Hossam "Mido", the Egyptian star who announced his retirement last summer after failing to find another club since leaving English Championship side Barnsley earlier that year. On Saturday, however, Hossam turned down the offer.

It's not Salah's first time as Masry head coach. The former Zamalek player led the club in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons.
