Masry have officially hired Anwar Salama as their new head coach, the Egyptian club announced on Wednesday.

"Salama will be the first team new coach," Masry stated on its official website without disclosing details.

Former Ahly player Salama will succeed former boss Sabry El-Meniawy who was sacked because of the club's poor results since the start of the season.

The woes of the Port Said-based club were further aggravated on Monday when they were dealt their second defeat of the season against Ismaily.

That match was the death knell for El-Meniawy, who was fired directly after its final whistle was blown.

After four matches, Masry currently lie at the bottom of the league's Group B with only two points, 11 behind leaders Ismaily.

Masry had initially offered the position to Ahmed "Mido" Hossam, the Egyptian star who announced his retirement last summer. On Saturday, however, Hossam turned down the offer.

The costal side's negotiations with coach Tarek Yehia also collapsed at the last minute.
