High-flying Petrojet extended their lead at the top of the Egyptian Premier League table after claiming a 1-0 victory over Masry on Thursday.

Ghanaian forward Jamis Tibi headed in the winner eight minutes from time to steer Petrojet to their third straight win of the season.

The petroleum side, who have lost once and drawn twice in eight games, have gone six points clear on top of Group B with their 20th point of the season.

Degla continue resurrection

Wadi Degla continued their revival under new coach Hesham Zakareya, who replaced former Lierse boss Hany Ramzy last month, grabbing an impressive 4-2 win over Talae El-Geish.

A frenetic match saw hosts Gaish keep their lead intact for more than 40 minutes following Ibrahim Al-Hilaly's 31st minute opener.

But a stunning comeback saw Degla hit three goals in just eight minutes, with Syrian frontman Abdel-Fattah Al-Agha levelling in the 72nd minute before Ethiopian international Salahdin Said bagged two quick-fire goals in the space of two minutes.

The game was not over yet, as Khaled Rabie gave Gaish hope in the 83rd minute before ex-Zamalek midfielder Mohamed Abdel-Wahed ensured the victory two minutes later.

The defeat forced Gaish manager Abdel-Hamid Bassiouny to hand in his resignation, with his side now second to last in the group.

The win stretched Degla's unbeaten run to four games, jumping to second place in the group with their 14th point of the campaign.

Shorta finally win

Elsewhere, Ittihad El-Shorta ended a six-match win-less streak by securing their second win of the season, beating Qanah 2-1.

Shorta's top-scorer Khaled Kamar broke the deadlock after just nine minutes for his fifth goal of the season, as Nigerian midfielder Maarouf Yousef doubled his side's advantage with a superb strike on the stroke of half-time.

The newly-promoted Qanah were handed a consolation in the dying minutes via an own goal from defender Khaled Stouhy.

The victory lifted Shorta to sixth place to become level on 10 points with Qanah, with the latter trailing by goal difference.

Ismaily fail to close gap

Later in the day, Ismaily failed to close within three points of leaders Petrojet after playing out a goal-less stalemate at home against Haras El-Hodoud.

Ismaily, who slumped to a surprise 2-1 defeat against Wadi Degla before drawing with Talae El-Gaish last week, could not overcome Hodoud to lose their seventh point in three games.

The Dervishes, however, climbed to second place on 15 points while Hodoud are eighth on nine points.
