Rookie coach Ahmed "Mido" Hossam believes Zamalek played their best match since his appointment on Monday, despite losing 1-0 to Masry.

The match was the team's first loss under Mido, who took over from Helmy Toulan in January and has overseen ten games so far.

The defeat added to the woes of the Cairo giants, who were seeking to end a disappointing run of two draws in the Egyptian Premier League.

"We lost the team's best match since my arrival," Mido said in the press conference after the match.

"The players wasted many chances against the goal. It is the first experience in my coaching career and I am always eager to learn from my mistakes.

"I want to congratulate Masry and their veteran coach Anwar Salama, who praised me today," the former Roma, Ajax and Tottenham player added.

Tensions flared in the final moments of the game following the dismissal of Zamalek midfielder Mohamed Ibrahim for a second bookable offence at the 90th minute.

"I want to apologise for what happened on the part of the Zamalek technical staff and players. The tension was out of our hands," the coach concluded.
