The Bafana Bafana are close to appointing Spanish tactician Camacho, who was coaching La Liga outfit Osasuna this season, to lead their national team in the remaining African Cup of Nations (ACN) qualifiers, Spanish newspaper Marca reported.

Camacho was recently fired by Osasuna after their 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad saw the Navarrese fall into the relegation zone.

The 55-year old tactician won more than 80 caps with Spain, representing them in two World Cups and UEFA European Football Championships. He also managed the Spanish national team for four years, taking them to the quarter-finals in the 2002 World Cup.

South Africa face the Pharaohs on 3 June with the chance to enhance their opportunities to reach the ACN finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Egypt, meanwhile, are eager to win the game to keep alive their slim hopes.

The Bafana Bafana are in the driving seat of ACN Group G with seven points, while Egypt lie bottom of the group with a single point.
