Winger Walid Soliman has been ruled out of Egypt's friendly game against Equatorial Guinea on Thursday after picking up a knee injury.
The 30-year-old, who has been one of Ahly's most consistent performers over the past few years, sustained the injury during a training session for the Egyptian national team.
"I'm sad to pull out of the training camp but coach Hector Cuper preferred to give me a chance to continue my treatment with Ahly," Soliman said in a television interview on Saturday.
"I'm not sure whether I would be able to play in Ahly's Champions League game against Rwanda's APR next month."
Zamalek playmaker Ayman Hefni will also miss the match due to injury, depriving the Pharaohs of much of their creativity.
Egypt will play their first match under Argentinean coach Cuper when they meet Equatorial Guinea in Morocco.
The 59-year-old boss, who helped Valencia reach the UEFA Champions League final twice in 2000 and 2001, took over at the seven-time African champions following the sacking of coach Shawky Gharib, under whom Egypt had failed to reach this year's Nations Cup.
