Argentina knocks Germany from top position in FIFA's ranking, no change for Egypt

After beating Tanzania 3-0 in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, Egypt kept their place in FIFA global football rankings published on Thursday, remaining in 55th place.

Egypt, who started their CAN 2017 qualifiers campaign last month after being out of action since November, are bidding for a place in the most prestigious continental tournament, the African Cup of Nations.

They were drawn in Group G of the qualifiers for the 2017 tournament alongside Nigeria, Chad and Tanzania.

Egypt made it into the world's top 10 when they won three successive African Cup of Nations trophies, in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

The seven-time African Champions have failed to reach Africa's showpiece three times in a row - the first time the national team has missed at least two consecutive tournaments since failing to qualify for the 1965 and 1968 CAN.

The Egyptian Football Association appointed Hector Cuper as the new boss of the Egyptian national team ahead of the 2017 African Cup qualifiers, as well as the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Egypt last reached the World Cup in 1990. The team started 2017 African Cup qualifiers last June, and they will play the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in October.

Algeria are still leading the African countries in 19th place, ahead of Ivory Coast (21), Ghana (25), Tunisia (32) and Senegal (39).

Argentina jumped two places, to knock out World Cup winner Germany from the top position.
