The Egyptian U17 national team has qualified for the 2011 African Cup of Nations that will be held in Rwanda from 7 - 22 January.
“We were notified by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that our opponent Mauritius withdrew from the final qualifier. As a result we are through to the final phase,” a statement from the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said on Monday.
Egypt was supposed to meet Mauritius in a two-leg encounter in November but they now have a free ticket to the ninth edition for the first time since 2003.
Coach Mohammed Omar hopes to make a big impact this time as the young Pharaohs already have their name written once in the list of honour when they won the title in 1997.
