Four-time champions Egypt opened their U-20 African Championship campaign with a goalless draw with Mali in Group A on Sunday.
A lackluster Egypt side were lucky to come up with a single point after their Malian counterparts launched wave after wave of attacks, especially in the second half.
Earlier in the day, hosts Zambia beat Guinea 1-0 to top Group A, with Egypt now level on a single point with Mali.
Metemed Gamal's men meet Guinea on March 1, as they bid to advance to the knockout stages – whereby they would secure qualification for the U-20 World Cup in South Korea next summer.
