The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have sent a letter of thanks and congratulations to the Egyptian Football Association for Egypt’s solid performance in the 2011 Under-20 World Cup in Colombia in August.
“The committee would like to congratulate you for the good performance of your team and for the respect for the spirit of fair play shown by your players and officials and wishes you all success,” read the CAF letter, published on the association’s official website.
A CAF committee examined Egypt’s participation in the U-20 event on 20 September during their last meeting in Cairo.
Egypt's U-20 players, under the guidance of coach Dia’a El-Sayed (who is currently assisting Bob Bradley in the first team job), showcased undeniable talent in the global tournament despite their round 16 exit at the hands of six-time winners Argentina (2-1).
The young Pharaohs were heartily cheered by the crowds during their three group-stage matches, with their free-flowing football and intricate passing drawing the admiration of all those present.
