Egypt's winger Ahmed Elmohamady, who stars in Aston Villa, has praised the breath-taking performance of teammate Mohamed Salah after his current success with Liverpool.

“He’s one of the best players in the world. I am happy for him. We are all happy for him," the 30-year-old player said in an interview with England's Express on Tuesday.

“Mo-Mo is a great lad. He has been excellent this season. He is doing really well with Liverpool," he continued, adding, "It’s easy in training [against him], but in a game he turns into a different player."

“He took the chance to leave Chelsea and go away from the Premier League to prove everyone wrong. And he did it at Fiorentina and Roma, then came back to the Premier League and you see what he can do now,” El-Mohamady explained.

“Hopefully he can continue in the same form and help us in the World Cup. We need him. He is going to play a big part in the team," the winger concluded.

Salah and Elmohamady will be paired for a national mission that will be supported by millions of Egyptian fans who will at last see their country's flag in the World Cup for the first time since 1990.

Egypt have been drawn in group A alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and host Russia.

Elmo has also compared Salah with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, saying that Salah will need at least seven or eight seasons to prove his supremacy over the World's top two players who dominated the Ballon d’Or for a decade.

“It’s only one season,” he said. “He’s been good at Roma. But for the level of Ronaldo and Messi, he has to do it for seven or eight years.”

On Tuesday, Mohamed Salah was voted Player of the Year by the Football Writers' Association, completing a sweep of England's individual prizes. Previously he was named best player by the Professional Footballers' Association.

The 25-year-old will be on his toes on Wednesday when his side Liverpool play his former club Roma in the second-leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
