Egypt coach Hector Cuper says the team’s performance in Friday's friendly match against Kuwait, which ended in a draw, was more important than the result, and insisted that the team needs more time and patience to adapt ahead of the World Cup.

The Pharaohs continued their disappointing run in World Cup warm-ups in the Kuwait match, but managed to avoid a third successive loss after a late goal secured a 1-1 result.

"Sure, the draw against Kuwait is better than a loss. I know that fans are concerned about the result, even in the friendly matches, but I have my sight on other important things," Cuper told ONtv channel after the match.

In March, Egypt lost to Portugal and Greece in friendly matches held during their first training camp in Switzerland.

"Other things related to the performance and players are more important than the result for me. We aimed to test our new players against Kuwait and that was the start of our camp ahead of the World Cup," the coach explained.

"We should put into consideration that the players just returned from a break after the season's end, so we still need extra time and patience to adapt ahead of the World Cup.

"Now we will work on a lot of things related to the players. We still have two weeks at least; a sufficient period to achieve positive results," he concluded.

The seven-time African champions have this year reached the World Cup for the first time since 1990. They will play in Group A, alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and hosts Russia.

Egypt will kick-off their World Cup campaign on 15 June against Uruguay, then face hosts Russia on 19 June. Their final group stage match will be against Saudi Arabia on 25 June.
