Ahly's Sobhi leads Egypt's preliminary squad for U23 Nations Cup

The eight-team tournament will take place from 8-22 November at Cairo's International Stadium and Al-Salam Stadium in the capital.

Egypt U23 coach Shawky Gharib announced on Wednesday a 27-man squad for next month's U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

The eight-team tournament will take place from 8-22 November at Cairo's International Stadium and Al-Salam Stadium in the capital.

Ahly's classy winger Ramadan Sobhi was included in the list as well as his teammate Mohamed Mahmoud, who has been out of action since January due to serious knee injury.

Zamalek's rising striker Moustafa Mohmed also features in the list with Smouha's forward Nasser Maher.

The 27-man list will be reduced to 21 players before 28 October.

Egypt were drawn in Group A alongside Cameroon, Ghana and Mali while Group B includes Nigeria, Zambia, Ivory Coast and South Africa.

The first three teams will qualify for the next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo

Goalkeepers: Omar Radwan (Gouna), Omar Salah (Smouha), Mohamed Sobhi (Zamalek), Moustafa Shobeir (Ahli)

Defenders: Ossama Galal (ENPPI), Mahmoud Marei, Ahmed Ramadan (Wadi Degla), Mohamed Abdel-Salam (Zamalek), Mohamed Sadek, Ahmed Ayman (Ismaily), Karim El-Iraki (Masry), Ahmed Abou El-Fotouh (Smouha), Mahmoud El-Gazzar (Gouna).

Midfielders: Akram Tawfiq, Ahmed Hamdi (Gouna), Ghanam Mohamed (El-Entag El-Harbi), Amar Hamdi, Ramadan Sobhi, Mohamed Mahmoud (Ahli), Taher Mohamed (Arab Contractors), Nasser Maher (Smouha), Abdel-Rahman Magdi (Ismaily).

Strikers: Moustafa Mohamed (Zamakek), Salah Mohsen (Ahly), Ahmed Yasser (Gouna), Nasser Mansi (Talae El-Geish)
