It has been confirmed that Egypt's playmaker Nasser Maher will miss the rest of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations due to his shoulder injury, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced early on Saturday.
The Ahly player was substituted in Egypt's 1-0 win over Mali in the tournament's opening match on Friday after suffering a shoulder injury following an aerial challenge.
"Maher won't be available for the rest of the African Cup after suffering a dislocated shoulder during the game against Mali," reads a statement by the EFA.
"Scans revealed that the player is suffering from a ligament tear that needs rehabilitation time from four to six weeks. The technical staff is very sad about losing the player's services," the statement added.
Egypt top Group A with three points, while Cameroon and Ghana share the spoils after their 1-1 draw, also on Friday. The top three in the tournament will reach next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The young Pharaohs' next match will be against Ghana on Monday.
