An early goal from Faustin Usengimana gave Rwanda a 1-0 win over Egypt on Tuesday to secure a semi-final spot in the CAN U-17 held in Rwanda.

A ninth minute header from Usengimana, who escaped his marksman to convert a corner, led the hosts to clinch, for the first time in their history, one of four African spots in the World Cup 2011.

The young Pharaohs controlled the game – in terms of possession – after this early shock, but failed to break through the Rwandan defence.

They tightened their grip on the game when the hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 65thminute but Mohamed Omar’s men couldn’t benefit from their supremacy in number.

Egypt are still second in their group with three points and will have a crucial clash against Burkina Faso on Friday.
