Egypt's Olympic squad flies to Switzerland Wednesday to play a friendly against FC Basel.
Hany Ramzy’s team defeated Bob Bradley’s senior squad 2-1 on Tuesday. Sherwida and Marawan Mohsen scored the goals.
“Our friendly with the national team was really helpful. All the players made the best use of the experience,” Abdel-Aziz said to Egyptian television.
The Young Pharaohs’ last appearance at the quadrennial showpiece came in 1992 in Barcelona, where they lost against Spain and Qatar, though they defeated Colombia, and failed to progress beyond the group stage.
All Egyptian football activities have been suspended since 1 February, when at least 74 fans were killed and hundreds injured in Port Said Stadium following a match between Ahly and Masry.
The team’s delegation to Switzerland will be led by administrative manager Alaa Abdel-Aziz, the technical staff under the guidance of Hany Ramzy and 19 players.
