Egypt coach Bob Bradley has decided not to call up replacements for injured duo Amr Zaki and Hossam Ashour before travelling to Sudan for a training camp, goalkeeping coach Zaki Abdel-Fattah said on Tuesday.

“Bradley will not pick replacements for Zaki and Ashour due to the lack of time,” Abdel-Fattah was quoted as saying by official news agency MENA.

Zamalek striker Zaki and Ahly midfielder Ashour were both included in the Pharaohs’ squad for a training camp in Sudan, where they are scheduled to play two friendly matches against Chad and Uganda on 29 and 31 March.

Zaki sprained his ankle, while Ashour suffered a groin strain.

The Ahly midfielder expressed regret over missing the training camp after receiving his first-ever call-up to the national team.

“I appreciate Bradley’s decision to pick me, but I’m unlucky to miss the Sudan trip,” Ashour told Ahly’s official website on Tuesday. “Hopefully, I can return to the Egyptian squad as soon as possible.”

Despite his consistently solid performances with the Red Devils within the last six years, Ashour failed to convince former Egypt coach Hassan Shehata that he was good enough to play with the seven-time African champions.
