Egypt national team coach Hossam El-Badry announced that Egypt's captain armband will continue to be worn, as per tradition, by the most senior player in the team.

His statement comes amid reports in the Egyptian media that El-Badry wanted to change that tradition, preferring to give the armband to the standout player of the current generation.

"Egypt's captain will be, as usual, the most senior player ... it will be awarded according to the players' seniority," El-Badry said.

The Pharaohs will host Togo in the 3rd round of the 2022 African Cup of Nations qualifiers on 14 November, with the two sides scheduled to meet again in the 4th round on 17 November.

El-Badry praised the performance of Zamalek striker Mostafa Mohamed, confirming the player has more to achieve with Pharaohs ahead of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The 22-year-old attacker, Mostafa Mohamed helped Zamalek to reach the CAF Champions League final after beating Morocco's Raja 4-1 on aggregate.

"Mostafa Mohamed performed well in the previous games with Zamalek and he still has more targets to achieve with the team," El-Badry told a television programme late Saturday.

"Mostafa Mohamed is motivated to introduce the same superb performance with the national team and I see more talented young players like the Zalamek player, including Taher Mohamed and Akram Tawfiq," the Egypt national team coach said.

Under the guidance of El-Badry, Egypt were held to draws by minnows Kenya and Comoros in their opening qualifying games for the next Africa Cup of Nations last year.

Egypt, record seven-time African champions, are due to continue their campaign in the Nations Cup qualifiers, though the final dates of the remaining matches haven’t yet been set yet.
