Egypt were seeded third in the 21 April draw for the summer Olympic Games in Tokyo as FIFA announced the pots on Friday.
The rankings are built according to performances from the past five Olympic football tournaments in addition to a bonus to those nations who finished their qualifying competition as continental champions, according to the FIFA official website.
The 16 teams are allocated on four groups of four teams based on rankings; the hosts Japan will be leading Group A, as it awaits the draw held at FIFA headquarters.
The general principle for each tournament’s draw is to ensure that no group has more than one team from the same confederation.
Egypt won the U23 African Cup of Nations on home soil in 2019.
Pot 1: Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Korea Republic
Pot 2: Mexico, Germany, Honduras, Spain
Pot 3: Egypt, New Zealand, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa
Pot 4: Australia, Saudi Arabia, France, Romania
