Egypt's national team coach Carlos Queiroz has called up on Sunday nine foreign-based players for the preparatory camp ahead of the two upcoming games in mid-October against Libya in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

"Queiroz announced the primary foreign-based players squad who will be called to join Egypt's camp within preparations for the World Cup qualifiers," read a statement by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

According to the EFA, the nine players who were called up ahead of the upcoming African clashes are star winger Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, Ittihad of Jeddah’s defender Ahmed Hegazi, Arsenal’s midfielder Mohamed Elneny, striker Ahmed ‘Kouka’ Hassan of Konyaspor, Sam Morsi of Ipswich Town FC, Omar Marmoush of Stuttgart, Galatasaray’s in-form striker Mostafa Mohamed, Ahmed Yasser Rayan of Altay and Karim Hafez of Yeni Malatyaspor.

The foreign-based players squad is witnessing the appearance of Rayan with the Pharaohs for the first time as well as the return of Morsi, Marmoush and Hafez.

In early September, the EFA named Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz the new national team coach, replacing coach Hossam El-Badry due to the team's poor performance in the early games against Angola and Gabon World Cup qualifiers.

Late last week, the Portuguese coach said that the final squad for the Libya games will be announced on 26 September before holding a closed camp on 28 September.

He also confirmed that Egypt will play a friendly game against Liberia on 30 September.

Egypt are in second place of Group F with four points, two points behind leaders Libya, with Gabon at one point and Angola a zero.
