The Pharaohs’ Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz decided to summon Hamdi after excluding Zamalek full back Mohamed Abdel-Shafy due to an injury.

The national team players will be joining a training camp on Tuesday in preparation for their friendly against Liberia, which is scheduled for Thursday 30 September, and the two games against Libya on 8 and 11 October in the third and fourth rounds of the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.

Egypt has four points from the first two rounds after defeating Angola at home 1-0 and equalising with Gabon 1-1.

The Liberia friendly will be Queiroz’s first trial with the Pharaohs, where he will have to make a convincing display, especially after the sacking of coach Hossam El-Badry, who didn’t lose any matches during his stint with the team.
