'No room for sorrys or tomorrows': Egypt coach Queiroz cautions players ahead of Senegal clashes

Pharaohs’ coach Carlos Queiroz cautioned his players that there is no room "for sorrys or tomorrows," stressing "we can fly, and nothing is impossible," as the team prepares to take on the Lions of Teranga in the 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs this week.

Egypt will face Senegal in a double header in the third and final phase of the World Cup qualifiers on 25 March in Cairo and 29 March in Dakar, with the winner set to advance to the World Cup in Qatar in November of this year.

“Lads, count down, …10/9/8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 2022 World Cup Final Ignition… It took us a long and hard road to reach this deserved opportunity. We know certainly the challenge we face here. There is no room for sorrys or tomorrows,” the 69-year-old Portuguese coach tweeted on Monday.

“With courage, intelligent teamwork, and pride, we can fly, and nothing is impossible,” he added.

“Let’s do this with style and bravery. We’re counting on you, and we trust you. Good luck, Lads,” added Queiroz, who previously took Iran and Portugal to World Cups. 

On Saturday, Queiroz announced his 23-man roster for the anticipated clashes.

The Pharaohs and the Lions of Teranga are both eyeing a second successive World Cup appearance.

Last time the two sides met, Senegal prevailed over Egypt  in the 2021 African Cup of Nations final in Cameroon last month, winning on penalties following a 0-0 draw.
