“Security authorities officially informed us that 40,000 supporters will be allowed to attend Egypt’s first game in the AFCON qualifiers against Guinea at Cairo’s International stadium,” read a statement by the EFA.
The Pharaohs will start their Group D campaign under the helm of recently appointed coach Ehab Galal, who took over following the departure of Portuguese Carlos Queiroz last month, at home with Guinea on 5 June and then with Ethiopia on their turf four days later.
On Friday, Galal announced a preliminary 44-man squad ahead of the two anticipated games; including several uncapped players beside the familiar faces that helped Egypt finish as runners-up in the last edition of the AFCON under former coach Queiroz in February.
Egypt is due to start their training camp on 30 May, with Ahly’s players scheduled to join up with the team later, as they are facing Morocco’s Wydad in the African Champions League final on the same day.
