Egypt coach Ehab Galal promised on Saturday a "different playing style" as he begins his reign at home to Guinea in their opening African Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Pharaohs kick off their Group D campaign at home to Guinea on Sunday before meeting Ethiopia four days later away.

Although Galal's predecessor Carlos Queiroz took Egypt to the Nations Cup final and a World Cup qualifying playoff before the team lost both duels to Senegal, he was heavily criticised for what many believed his boring and ultra-cautious tactics.

Galal, on the other hand, is known for favouring an attractive brand of football, which he applied with the likes of Maqassa and Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League.

"We will introduce a different playing style. Our target is win in every game," he told a news conference.

Egypt will miss the services of regular goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawi and first-choice left-back Ahmed Fattouh after the duo had tested positive for COVID-19.

"We will be affected by El-Shennawi's absence but have the utmost confidence in all of our keepers," Galal added.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, whose season ended in disappointment after the Reds lost the Premier League and Champions League titles, is likely to spearhead Egypt's attack against Guinea.

"Salah is hungry to achieve the best with Egypt and reach his targets," Galal said of the team's talisman.

Egypt's Nations Cup qualifying group also includes Malawi in addition to Guinea and Ethiopia. The top two teams will directly qualify for next year's finals in Cote d'Ivoire.

"Egypt's group includes experienced teams that took part in the last edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. Guinea's game is difficult and important for the team," Galal added.
