Egypt’s new coach Rui Vitoria, 52, says he will call up Liverpool star winger Mohamed Salah to join the Pharaohs’ training camp in September, saying "there is no reason to prevent him from joining."

“All indications say that Salah will join the foreign-based player squad. There is no reason to prevent him from joining the camp,” the coach said.

The 30-year-old Pharaohs skipper started the English Premier League season with his club Liverpool in a good form earlier in the month.

Vitoria said that Egyptian football should be developed to make the best use of Salah's abilities.

Earlier on Wednesday, Vitoria announced the locally-based players for the squad to partake in his training camp in September, which includes eight new faces.

“Our main target from the first camp is to achieve harmony between the technical staff and players, and I also want to monitor players closely, as playing with the national team is totally different from the club level,” Vitoria said in a press conference on Wednesday.

“We preferred to postpone the announcement of the preliminary squad until finishing the league on Tuesday to keep players’ concentration,” added the 52-year-old former Benfica coach, who signed a four-year contract in July to take charge of the national team.

“We want to give players more experience with the national team so they are ready to be called-up any time. We are monitoring all players and the door is open for all of them to prove their worth,” Vitoria explained.

According to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), Vitoria will announce the other foreign-based players on 4 September and then announce the final list on 17 September after Zamalek end their continental commitment.

“Our main standard in choosing players is having sufficient ability to play with the national team, and also competitiveness,” he added.

Vitoria has reportedly asked the EFA to play two friendly games during the September camp, and the coach revealed in Wednesday’s presser that Niger and Liberia will be the Pharaohs’ opponents.

“We will play two friendly games during the camp; the first will be against Niger on 23 September and the second will be against Liberia four days later,” the coach said.
