Minister of Sports Ashraf Sobhi announced that Egypt, which hosted two Africa Cup of Nations in the last two decades, will not bid to host the 2025 edition in order to give other African countries a chance to organise the prestigious tournament.

“We will not bid this time around to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations since we organised the tournament twice in the last two decades, in 2006 and 2019,” Sobhi told a television programme on Friday.

“We will support brotherly African countries bids this time around to give other nations a chance to host the tournament," he explained.

" In case of any problems, we will convey to the Confederation of the African Football (CAF) that Egypt is ready to host the tournament,” Sobhi added.

Last week, Guinea was stripped of hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations because its infrastructure was not yet ready, according to CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Meanwhile, Sobhi revealed that Egypt is mulling a bid to hosting the 2030 or 2034 FIFA World Cup, but a final decision has not been reached yet.

“We will make a shared bid with other countries for the FIFA World Cup but we have we have not reached any arrangemnets yet,” Sobhi said.

Recent reports in Egyptian media had indicated that the country will make a shared bid with Saudi Arabia and Greece to host the 2030 World Cup.
