“Medical scans revealed Metwaly is suffering from a muscular strain that will sideline him from the current camp,” a statement read by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) via Facebook.

Sadly, Metwaly’s call-up for the current training camp was his first ever to represent the seven-time African Champions.

Ittihad of Alexandria defender Khaled Sobhi has been included to replace him.

The Pharaohs have started their camp on 7 November and is expected to last until after Belgium showdown.

The 29-year old defender has delivered outstanding performances with Cairo giants Ahly since the start of the season.

The former Ismaily defender had an injury-plagued spell since joining Ahly in 2019 raising doubts about his future at the club.

However, new coach Marcel Koller has restored him in the team's lineup since the beginning of the season.

He repaid the faith of his manager by guiding the Reds to three consecutive league wins and the Super Cup title over archrivals Zamalek.
