Egypt’s Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria said he is proud of his players after Friday’s “important” 2-1 win over Belgium, predicting more success for team skipper and Liverpool star winger Mohamed Salah in the coming period.

Two goals from Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed and Trabzonspor winger Mahmoud Trezeguet gave the seven-time African champions Egypt a stunning 2-1 victory over Belgium in a friendly game played in Kuwait.

“We secured an important win in a difficult game against a strong opponent; the world's second-ranked team,” Vitoria said in the press conference after the match.

“I am proud of my players for deploying my tactics perfectly whether through trainings or against a strong rival today.”

“I am happy to please all the Egyptian fans in the stands and also those who were supporting us in Egypt. That was my main target,” the 52-year-old coach added.

With Friday’s victory, Egypt gave Vitoria his third victory in as many games after friendly wins over Niger and Liberia earlier this year.

“Both the Niger and Liberia games came as a preparation for us for Belgium match, facing such strong teams is needed to get a quick and close assessment for the players,” the coach explained.

Salah didn not score against Belgium, but Vitoria believes that the former Chelsea and AS Roma player had his own impact on the team.

“If you have a big name like Salah in your team, you also need three or other four players at the same level around him to impose a real threat on your opponent,” the Egypt coach said.

“If we managed to play strongly at the collective level, the players will shine also at the individual level. If Salah is scoring on a regular basis, sure we also will need other players to prove themselves.

“At the team’s current exceptional phase with this excellent group of players Salah will be better in the coming period,” the coach concluded.
