Egypt coach Rui Vitoria has criticized the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the date of the Pharaohs' upcoming clash against Guinea in the Nations Cup qualifiers, which is scheduled to take place in Morocco next week.

The game is set for Wednesday, 14 June, just 72 hours after the Champions League final between Ahly and Wydad de Casablanca.

Vitoria expressed his displeasure over the date, as he called up eight Ahly players in his 28-man list for the game and believes that these players would be exhausted after the Champions League final.

"Frankly, I am so sad, and I can't easily accept how the CAF set the date of the game against Guinea," Vitoria told a news conference on Wednesday.

"With all my respect to Guinea, I have no fear of them. We just respect them very well, and our goal is to win, but it is not acceptable for CAF or any other responsible party to put the match on 14 June."

Egypt is on the verge of securing their place int the next year's Africa Cup of Nations as they are leading the Group D with nine points, on level with Guinea, but the Pharaohs top the group due to their better goal difference.

Malawi and Ethiopia are currently third and fourth in the group with three points each.

The first two teams in each group will qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to take place in Cote d'Ivoire in January 2024.

After the Guinea clash, Egypt will face South Sudan in a friendly in Cairo.

Vitoria also added that some players would be exempted from playing against South Sudan, but he did not define who those players are.
