The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) denied on Monday all claims that national team coach Rui Vitoria could be stepping down and heading to Saudi Arabia.

"There is no truth to the rumours about Vitoria reaching a deal with any Saudi club. The reports that came out are completely incorrect." Egypt’s team manager Mohamed Ghoraba said in a statement.

Earlier reports in Saudi media claimed Vitoria had agreed to coach Ahli Jeddah if the Saudi club could reach an agreement with the EFA.

"I spoke with Vitoria and he denied there are any negotiations with any Saudi team. He is committed to Egypt team and is preparing the World Cup qualifiers and next year’s Africa Cup of Nations that is scheduled for next January.

“Vitoria is happy in Egypt," Ghoraba concluded.

The 53-year old took over the Pharaohs in July 2022. He led Egypt to secure a record-extending 26th appearance in the 2024 African Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast.

Vitoria is no stranger to Saudi football as he guided Al-Nassr to the league title in 2019 and the Super Cup in 2020.

Ahli Jeddah are still looking for a coach to replace South African tactician Pitso Mosimane who led them back to the Pro League after just one season in the second-tier.
