The match served as part of Egypt's preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Russia fielded a team consisting of locally-based players who proved to be tough opponents for Rogerio Micale's men.
Panathinaikos Athens striker Bilal Mazhar gave the Egyptian side an early lead in the seventh minute of the game.
However, a blunder from Egypt's goalkeeper, Mohamed Siha, allowed the Russian team to level the score just two minutes into the second half.
Thursday's match marked the first appearance of the Egyptian U-23 team since their second-place finish in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which secured their qualification for Paris 2024.
Egypt will face Russia in another friendly on Monday 11 September in Suez.
