Egypt’s Brazilian Olympic team coach Rogerio Micale was rumoured to have been on the shortlist for the job, after successfully guiding the Young Pharaohs to reach the 2024 Paris Olympics and the final of the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

However, the EFA chose his assistant, Riad.

Riad, 41, was a member of the Egyptian U-17 team that won the Bronze Medalists at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship in Argentina.

Also on Monday, the EFA appointed former Olympic club, Zamalek and Ittihad of Alexandria star Ahmed El-Kass, 58, as the new coach of the U-17 national football team.
